Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Kigali – border crossing to Bukavu – D.R. Congo

Have breakfast early in the morning and after, your tour leader picks you up from the hotel. Briefing on what your 3 days lowland gorilla tour in Kahuzi-Biega National Park will be done quickly then you go border-crossing via Cyangugu border.

This is a long journey but rewarding so no regrets thereafter! En-route, expect to enjoy impressive view of Rwanda’s rolling hills, lush forests then proceed to Bukavu Town just near Kahuzi-Biega National Park. If you are traveling from Uganda, drive via Bunagana border which is near Kisoro Town.

Day 2: Eastern Lowland gorilla trekking and waterfalls tour / community visits

The actual lowland gorilla trek begins today after breakfast and briefing on guidelines for Eastern lowland trekking. At 8:00am, you will be hitting the jungles with park guide to look for a habituated family of Eastern lowland gorillas (4 groups have undergone habituation in this park alone). You may take 4 hours less or more and you may come across some primates, birds, mammals and a lot more.

After a close encounter with the Eastern Lowland gorillas and photo taking for 1 hour, return to the lodge for relaxation. Your afternoon will involve visiting nearby communities, Bukavu Town, Kibati waterfalls then have dinner and overnight stay at the booked lodge/hotel.

Day 3: Border crossing from D.R. Congo to Kigali in Rwanda

After you have had your cup of tea or coffee, drive back via Cyangugu border to Rwanda. Along the way, expect to make a stop visit to an ethnographic museum in Butare, former palace of the King of Nyanza and then get to Kigali in the evening or early in the afternoon after lunch.
