The 5 days combined gorilla trekking in Rwanda and Uganda is an exceptional double mountain gorilla encounter. It takes you to Volcanoes National Park in Northwestern Rwanda to trek gorillas and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Southwestern Uganda.
This safari package also includes tracking golden monkeys in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. Your double gorilla tour starts and ends in Kigali, Rwanda.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Kigali city expedition & drive to Volcanoes National Park
Have an early morning breakfast and after, you will be picked up by the city tour leader to begin your Kigali city expedition. You will pay a visit to Gisozi genocide memorial centre, craft shops and the closest markets.
Later, drive to Volcanoes National Park after a lunch break to check in at the lodge that you reserved.
Day 2: Pac national des Vulcans; Gorilla trekking
Enjoy your hefty cup of tea or coffee and after, briefing will be at Kinigi where offices of Volcanoes National Park are. You will require some snacks and a bottled drinking water. The team from Volcanoes National Park will allocate you to one of the 10 gorilla families and the park guide to lead you through the entire experience. It takes you 2-6 hours inclusive of 1 hour of a magical encounter.
Get back to chill at the lodge after your long day of adventure. Chill during the afternoon and have an exciting evening cultural experience at Ibyiwachu Cultural Village. Later, return to the lodge to have a relaxed dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Golden monkey tracking & transfer to Bwindi National Park
After breakfast, briefing on golden monkey tracking rules will be done at Kinigi offices of Volcanoes National Park. This takes 2-4 hours and once you find golden monkeys, only 1 hour is given to you for photography and exploring in depth about these beautiful creatures. Return to have a relaxed lunch and check out of the lodge then be transferred to Bwindi National Park via Katuna/Chanika border. Have dinner and a comfortable night stay in a booked lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest & Batwa encounter
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park will be your next destination to engage in the second phase of mountain gorilla trekking experience. The actual trek begins after breakfast, briefing on guidelines at the park offices (Buhoma, Nkuringo, Ruhija or Rushaga sector) and you have been allocated a habituated gorilla family to track in your group of 8 visitors.
Bwindi inhabits all 20 habituated groups of mountain gorillas and treks may last from 2 to 6 hours inclusive of 1 hour of magical encounter. Return to the lodge for relaxation and have evening visit to Batwa Community to enjoy the thrilling cultural experience.
Day 5: Travel back to Kigali from Bwindi via Katuna/Chanika border
Wake up early to have a relaxed breakfast and later, check out of the lodge. Get to Kigali Rwanda via Katuna/Chanika border about 3-4 hours’ drive. You may go for Kigali city tour if you didn’t do it on day 1 of your 5 days combined double gorilla trekking in Rwanda and Uganda.
